Albert W. Barker

Albert Winslow Barker trained at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in the early 1890s. Since he was partially colorblind he preferred to work in black and white so he gravitated to charcoal drawing and later prints. When he began collecting 19th century French lithographs in 1926 he began to try making his own. His favorite subjects were the farms and craftsmen working in rural Pennsylvania; his images often resemble works by his favorite French artists. Barker taught at the School of Industrial Art in Philadelphia for a number of years and wrote many essays and articles on the technique of lithography publishing Lithography for Artists in 1930.
