Fay Chongborn Guangzhou, China, 1912; died Seattle, Washington, 1973
Fay Chong emigrated to Seattle from his native China in 1920. He studied art at Seattle’s Broadway High School alongside with sculptor George Tsutakawa (1910-1997) and painter Morris Graves (1910-2001). He also studied informally with the artist Mark Tobey (1890-1976) and later received a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in art education from the University of Washington. Chong exhibited his work throughout the Northwest as well as the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Philadelphia, and New York. He was active in a number of Washington art associations including the Puget Sound Group of Painters and the Northwest Printmakers and along with Andrew Chinn and others formed the Chinese Arts Club.
