David C. Kane

born Bellingham, Washington, 1951
BiographyDavid Kane earned a B.F.A. in painting at the University of Washington during the time such noted artists as Michael Spafford, Jacob Lawrence, and Alden Mason were on the faculty. He has received awards from the King County Arts Commission, the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, and Artist Trust, and has taught painting and drawing at Cornish College of the Arts and the School of Visual Concepts. The Frye Art Museum held a retrospective of his work, David C. Kane: Fiat Mambo, in 2007 and he has shown his work in numerous exhibitions across the region.

Kane draws source material from the histories of modern art, including Cubism, Surrealism, Futurism, and Socialist Realism. Other visual influences include film, particularly science fiction and film noir, popular culture. He now lives and works in the Skagit Valley.
